Not So Spicy Mexican Food

When I think of a Mexican restaurant, I think of spicy food and a long wait. Surprisingly, Qdoba Mexican Grill did not have either of these flaws. Qdoba is set up like Subway in that you are able to create your food any way you would like it. You can even order it naked, that is, without the shell! It has a soothing, calm lighting with a nice cool breeze, a television so that you can keep up on the news, and food that will keep you coming back for more.

When I walked into Qdoba, there were a lot of people in line. I instantly thought I should come back another time, assuming it would be a long wait; however, the smell had already convinced me to stay. To my surprise, the line took no time at all. Anytime is a good time to go to Qdoba Mexican Grill, even breakfast. Qdoba makes delicious breakfast burritos, and salads. They serve every meal of the day and are open until 9pm.

If they look busy, give it a few minutes and the line will be gone. The line servers focus on one person at a time, and do not get overwhelmed by long lines. They know exactly what they are doing, and you can be sure that they made your burrito according to your likings. You can get in and out without spending more time in line than actually eating.

The menu is simple in the way that if you want a burrito you can choose everything. The only thing hard about it is deciding what you want. Even if you do not like spicy foods, they have an easy cheese salsa, so that you can enjoy your burrito without drinking a gallon of water to cool your mouth off. They also have many options for vegetarians such as a vegetarian burrito, which included beans, rice, and fried veggies, veggie salads, vegetarian gumbo, which is a veggie soup and a simple cheese quesadilla. Qdoba also offers a children’s menu, which has entrees such as a mini quesadilla, or a kid’s taco meal.

The price averages about $6 for any entrée. The entrées seem expensive but the staff makes sure you get your money’s worth by filling the burrito as full as it can get before it breaks. Each burrito is served with your choice of steak, ground beef, chicken, or pork, black or pinto beans, salsas such as pico de gallo (a mild chunky tomato salsa), mango (full of cucumbers, mangos, cilantro, and lime juice), roasted chile corn (medium salsa full of corn and a few jalapeños, lime juice, and cilantro), salsa verde (a simple medium salsa), salsa roja (a simple hot salsa), or fiery habanero ( a flaming hot salsa with habaneros), and an assortment of toppings such as cheese, sour cream, lettuce, guacamole, or extra veggies and meat. An employee of Qdoba, Craig Worrall, explains his favorite and least favorite combination of these options. “The best is the chicken queso burrito, which is rice, beans, choice of black or pinto beans, chicken, queso sauce, choice of salsa, shredded cheese sour cream and lettuce all wrapped in a tortilla shell. The chicken goes really well with the queso. The worst is any type of mole burrito, mole is a mix of chocolate and beans and you cannot taste the chocolate one bit. I think it is the smell that gets me. It makes me what to gag, which is why I am glad we got rid of it!” All Qdoba restuarants have gladly gotten rid of the mole sauce, because of its unpopularity.

So if you are looking for a quick burrito, go to Qdoba. You can get your burrito anyway you want it, spicy or non spicy and you will not have to worry about picking anything off of it.
