Pizza restaurants are always an open option for a casual lunch, but no one expects it to be an exceptional, first-class meal. I first heard about this restaurant from a friend who had told me that Toppers was one of the best pizza restaurants around town. One of the employees there says, "[b]eing regular is bad in such a competitive market like Dekalb. Seeing how this was a unique and popular restaurant, I decided to try it out. Unfortunately, I was not able to dine at the restaurant, so I had no idea what the interior appearance was like. I made a short trip down there to take a glimpse at the exterior of the restaurant. It wasn't anything too spectacular to look at, but it did have a contemporary look to it.
I placed an order for a large diced bacon pizza. Despite the fact that I have an indisposition towards bacon, the pizza turned out to be pretty tasty. I especially enjoyed the crust; It was extremely chewy and the texture was like nothing I have ever eaten before. The chewy crust was the perfect combination with the juicy bits of bacon scattered all over the pizza. The overall appeal of the pizza was also great. At first, I thought the pizza was a bit overcooked as it was really dark looking, but after I took a bite into it, I realized the darkness was intentional as it added an extra bit of crunchiness. Overall it was a phenomenal pizza. The price was amazingly cheap as well, and with it being cheap, you can always find awesome deals online by searching for coupons on their website. There is a coupon for a large one topping pizza and a triple order of Toppersticks for only $14.99. Now that's a great deal or as one of the employees at Toppers says, "The 1 topping large and triple order for $14.99. It is a good deal for that much food".
In addition to the pizza, I also placed an order for their famous triple order of Cinnamonstix. When the Cinnamonstix arrived, the vagrant scent captured my attention; the mere smell of them was worth drooling over. They were perfectly shaped rectangular bars of soft, chewy goodness. And the sweet, cool icing layered on top gave it a bitter sweet taste, although the sweetness of the icing overpowered it a bit. An employee states that "[t]hey are probably our single most popular item. I estimate it is partially due to the low price". Along with the sticks came a rich and creamy dip. It had a similar taste to whip cream with a kick of vanilla, but was much thicker in texture; it added a unbelievable taste to the sticks.
Although I only had a small portion of their extensive, diverse menu, the food was great nonetheless. The restaurant had a very unusual yet enticing menu and out of all the things I have seen before, I have never seen any pizzas topped like these. There was a Mac N' Cheese topped pizza and a pizza named "hangover helper", which I thought was quite bizarre. These pizzas are only two of the many house pizzas, which are $16.99. Additionally they had an option in which you could create your own pizzas. Some toppings in these custom made pizzas include taco meat, steak, buffalo chicken, and ground beef. These start at $11.99 and $1.75 for each additional topping.
Both the service on the phone and the in person delivery service was great "coupled by fast deliveries and friendly employees". They were both very friendly, especially the delivery guy; he was very conversational. He managed to find the apartment rather quickly, only taking 20 minutes, which came to me as a bit of a shock.
The restaurant, overall, was exceptional. I would rate it a 4.5 out of 5.
