Kicking it at Fatty’s

Kicking it at Fatty’s
Josh Stelsel

Located just off Lincoln highway in DeKalb, Fatty’s sports bar is the place to go for a fun night out. My friend Mike and I recently travelled to Fatty’s sports bar and grill to play bags and get dinner on Wednesday night at 8 o’clock. Although Fatty’s is primarily a bar, there are a decent number of people under 21 who go there for the food, entertainment, music, and playing in bags tournaments.
When we arrived, we walked around the long bar and past many tables that were set up around countless flat screen TVs hanging here and there. We didn’t stay inside however, we walked out back to where they have a deck leading down to about ten tables outside with TV sets hanging with the Cub’s game on. There were also bag sets and a bar outside.
The environment was very relaxed and laid back with many pictures of palm trees on the building and signs. According to Mike, “The restaurant seemed like a laid back place to be, everybody seemed to be having fun and enjoying themselves, which made it all the more welcoming for me.” There was also a great variety of music played throughout the night, everything from classic rock and country, to rap and some alternative music.
As soon as we were seated we were immediately attended to by a very nice waitress Samantha. We ordered drinks and a basket of 30 wings. She got us refills and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the night. The service was a little slow sometimes but it was understandable because there was a decent amount of people there so they had a lot of work to do.
The menu includes chicken, rib eye steak, pork chops, ribs, fries, an assortment of burgers, deep fried fish, wings, appetizers and many choices for drinks, especially if you are 21 or older. The average cost of a meal at Fatty’s will usually run anywhere from $10 to $20.
While we waited for about 45 minutes, we played about 4 games of bags which was fun because when our food arrived it felt like we didn’t even have to wait for it. This is a very nice thing to have because waiting for food is always the worst, especially when you are extremely hungry.
We ordered thirty wings, half honey barbeque, half hot, they were excellent. The sauce melted on your tongue with a tangy mesquite taste of honey barbeque. They were not skimpy wings either, in fact there larger than normal. This makes them a great deal for the price of $20.99 and drinks were about two dollars with unlimited refills which didn’t even matter because she didn’t end up charging us for them.
Wednesdays they have bags tournaments that are free to get into with a chance of making up to $500 which is awesome, especially considering you don’t have to pay anything. If you’re every looking for a fun place to go on a weeknight or weekend, I would highly recommend stopping out at Fatty’s for a night of food, sports, and drinks for all.
