Good, Old Pizza Hut

Right on one of DeKalb’s main arteries, Lincoln Highway, sits the well known Pizza Hut. The affordable Italian restaurant is ideal, whether you plan to dine-in or take-out. The menu is fully loaded with Italian favorites like different pastas, lasagna, and of course pizza. This particular Pizza Hut is actually located on Northern Illinois University’s campus so it is convenient for students.
This restaurant has a very spacious dining area which has a dim setting that gives off a warm mood. The windows that line three of the four walls are draped with red curtains. Near each window you will also find matching red sitting booths. The shiny, white, brick walls are dressed with Northern Illinois University sports portraits, which imply a sense of school pride. There are lights hanging from the ceiling that are dimmed by forest-green, glass lamp coverings. At the center of this large room, surrounded by tables, is a buffet bar. Looking out the window you can see the McDonalds restaurant and many other local businesses on Lincoln Highway.
With prices ranging from anywhere between 3 and 25 dollars, it is hard to beat. According to one customer, Darshay Walls, “…it’s a total bargain especially [during] buffet hours.” On Mondays through Fridays from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. and Sundays from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m., crowds hurry in to enjoy the filling Lunch Buffet. This features an all you can eat pizza and pasta buffet which includes your choice of any of the five different flavored pizza (which varies from day to day), 1 dessert pizza, bread sticks, cinnamon sticks, pasta and salad bar, for just 4.95 plus tax per person.
On the menu you can find various different types of pizza. Some with different crusts like pan, hand-tossed, thin and crispy, and multigrain. Along with these different choices they also offer special pizza toppings. Some of which includes Triple Meat, Hawaiian Luau, Veggie, and Spicy Sicilian. The Hawaiian Luau is topped with tropical pineapples, ham, and smoked bacon. For the low price of 5.99 you can order, from the menu, a special medium pizza called “Pizza Mia.” This is just regular pizza with slightly different ingredients that gives its pizza sauce a sweet taste. Besides pizza, on the menu you can also find pasta and lasagna. The delicious Tuscani Pasta is a fairly new but already a big hit. The menu’s appetizers are salads, different breadsticks, and apple pizza. My favorite, the cinnamon sticks, are sweet bread sticks covered in cinnamon. They are served hot and soft with a cup of small icing. The Chocolate Dunkers are also sweet bread treats battered in dark and white Hershey’s milk chocolate sprinkles. These are delicious and I would recommend these to chocolate lovers
Last year, in 2008, The Pizza Hut Corporation celebrated its 50th year of service and it has become very popular. Ms. Walls explained her experience at another Pizza Hut as being quite different. She said, “…it was usually very crowded...” This Pizza Hut is a family restaurant and has a cheerful environment that can attract huge crowds. Its friendly staff and waiters provide prompt service and will make you feel welcome and even consider returning soon.
