While sitting in lecture I thought about what a long walk it would be from Montgomery Hall to Potbelly on Lincoln highway, but it’s so worth it. As I arrived in front of the restaurant, I could already smell the bread crisping in the ovens and hear the “Dunch” theme song. “Dinner and Lunch, Dinner and Lunch! That’s what you call a good Dunch”, is what I hear when walking through the doors.
Although Potbelly has a way with its sandwiches, their prices are a little over the top for a sandwich you might think you can make at home. However, the sizes of their sandwiches match with the prices. Every time I visit Potbelly I order the BIG turkey breast sandwich which is 30% more of everything included in the sandwich than an Original or Skinny. A BIG is about $6 which is only a dollar more than an original sandwich. A skinny is about $4.30. And for a small Oreo shake costing about $3, I can make it worth it.
I only have two items on my list for when I visit Potbelly, but they do have a large variety of other things. For instance, they don’t just include sandwiches and shakes, they also have soft drinks, which range from $1-$2, salads for $5, soups and sides that cost $2.69, malts and smoothies that are $3 as well as the milk shakes, small snacks full of sweets that are only $2, and they even have a breakfast menu. However, not every Potbelly serves breakfast. The toppings that they provide are perfect to top off the perfect sandwich. On the menu they also provide nutritional information so that you know the nutritional content in every party of your meal. Now isn’t that fair?
Even though I usually take my sandwich and shake to go, my dining experience there is always the best one. The good part about it is that you can choose to eat inside if it’s a cold or rainy day or you can go outside on a nice day and sit at a preferably perfect table for four with a vintage umbrella covering the table so that your meal is not interrupted by the sun. I often sit outside under the umbrella. I appreciating the workers, for they prepare my sandwich and shake with love just like a mother would for her child. As well as I, they love the food at Potbelly too. I had one worker tell me, “[y]ou could catch me here whether I’m working or not. I love the food here.” Back in 1977, Potbelly was actually ran by a young couple. They boosted their business by making sandwhiches “despite the fast-paced, never-a-dull-moment world of antique dealing”, as they would say. They usually sold vintage glass doorknobs but a that change was a good one. However, I enjoy the 1977 antique look of the restaurant and the antique potbelly, cylinder and parlor style stoves in the store.I think they are one of the most important objects that bring out the idea of the setting. The pictures and articles posted are also good and interesting object used to idealize the restaurant. At some Potbelly restaurants a musician performs live. I guess it might be a way to liven up the restaurant.
I would say that the best time to visit this Potbelly restaurant is in the early afternoon when everyone is still in class and you can be in and out of the line while waiting for the best lunch you would ever have.
